Glasgow and Galloway -
Festival Service
Holy Trinity, Ayr, 15th May 2010
The members and friends of the Ayr branch of the Mothers' Union did Glasgow and Galloway proud on Saturday. The Festival service was greatly appreciated by everyone thanks in no small part to the welcome, cooperation, hospitality and spirituality extended to us all by the people of Ayr. Thank you one and all!
Canon Jeanette Jenkins welcomed everyone and the Patron of the Mothers' Union Bishop Gregor, celebrated and preached.
The service was enriched by the commissioning of new officers and by offering thanks to members who have served God through the objects of the MU for over forty years. The officers commissioned by +Gregor were Ann Glenesk, the Diocesan President, Carolynne Sorrell, Wendy Petrie, William Walker, Caryl Haglington, Enid Scobie, Margaret Horrell, Elsie Murray, Jill Cameron and Joan McKechnie. The Rev Peter Douglas, the Mothers' Union new Chaplain, unfortunately missed the celebrations due to an accident in which his wife Margaret sustained some facial injuries. All present held them both in their prayers during the service. The intention is Peter will be commissioned, by the bishop in Kilmarnock at the dedication service later in the year.
Visitors to the event included Hilary Moran, the Provincial President, Rev Scott Robinson the former Chaplain, Barbara Elliott, former DP representatives from the United Reformed, Baptist, the Guild and Olu Akitoye, link Secretary of Lagos Mainland MU. These people along with all the members, their families and friends were uplifted by the service, sermon, music, fellowship and hospitality. Members were also uplifted and encouraged by the support and friendship extended by +Gregor to all the members.
The Mothers' Union in Glasgow and Galloway has much to thank God for and all members
agreed to move forward in faith. Thanks to Paul for the photographic record of the
event. Have a look to see the happy faces, the fantastic food and the DP's new outfit
