Edinburgh

Edinburgh is Scotland’s capital city and seat of the Scottish Parliament and tourist industry. The Diocese stretches down to the borders along the East coast with several holiday resorts.

 

There are five branches and one group:

 

Members are involved in volunteer work in many ways, including:

 

Members used to run a play area for children whilst their parents visited inmates at Saughton Prison, Edinburgh, but this is no longer possible.  See the March 09 MU Diocesan Newsletter (download here - 1.09Mb) for more on this.

 

‘United in Prayer’ is the Mothers’ Union Theme for 2015, which develops the 2014 theme – ‘Sowing the Future together’, by focusing on the centrality of prayer in the work of Mothers’ Union across the world.  We are linked through the Wave of Prayer with the dioceses of (Province in parenthesis):

We intend to keep an unofficial link with Sri Lanka, since we have regular contact with several members there. The Mothers' Union played an effective role in providing a Relief Fund grant to Colombo, following the Tsunami of Boxing Day 2004.
